Mary’s Miniatures Now Offering Thousands of Small Creations to a Large Audience
North Oaks, MN (PRWEB) December 20, 2010
Mary’s Miniatures has moved from a small local handcrafted miniature business to a national web based retailer, offering over 16,000 items for the miniature hobbyist.
Most people are taught to see the “big” picture, think “big”, or have a big business plan. Mary Konkel, owner of Mary’s Miniatures, is having success by thinking small … really small.
Konkel, owns and operates an online miniature business called Mary’s Miniatures, and her products are typically 1:12 scale in size. If one checks out her website, http://www.marysminitures.net, they’ll immediately see the scale of her items.
Konkel said, her love of miniature crafting began 30 years ago, when she gave her then-7-year-old daughter, a wooden dollhouse as a gift. She finished the floors of the dollhouse with Popsicle sticks, and put up miniature wallpaper. Then she started accessorizing. That led her to a local craft store, where she met a saleslady who was into doll house miniatures.
“She was so excited to talk about miniatures,” said Konkel. “She had done a lot of it herself, and we got to be friends. I fed off her ideas.”
After creating a number of pieces, Konkel was able to fully accessorize the dollhouse. But then her newfound hobby was shelved, due to the business of life. It wasn’t until 2008 that she got back into her doll house miniature pastime ….in a big way.
The dollhouse that inspired Konkel’s hobby has now been passed down to her granddaughters, who are 3, 7 and 10.
Konkel says, a one-time hobby has evolved into a full-time online business. What started as all handcrafted miniatures, has grown into over 16,000 doll house miniatures, dollhouses, and hand crafted american girl doll food.
Mary’s website utilizes the latest online technology for product updating and buyer checkout features.
Konkel said one of her favorite stories involves one of her seven grandchildren and her miniatures.
“She woke up and said ‘Grandma, I woke up and I’m thinking tiny,” she laughed. “And I said ‘You know what? So am I.’”
