Mary’s Miniatures has moved from a small local handcrafted miniature business to a national web based retailer, offering over 16,000 items for the miniature hobbyist.

Most people are taught to see the “big” picture, think “big”, or have a big business plan. Mary Konkel, owner of Mary’s Miniatures, is having success by thinking small … really small.

Konkel, owns and operates an online miniature business called Mary’s Miniatures, and her products are typically 1:12 scale in size. If one checks out her website, http://www.marysminitures.net, they’ll immediately see the scale of her items.

Konkel said, her love of miniature crafting began 30 years ago, when she gave her then-7-year-old daughter, a wooden dollhouse as a gift. She finished the floors of the dollhouse with Popsicle sticks, and put up miniature wallpaper. Then she started accessorizing. That led her to a local craft store, where she met a saleslady who was into doll house miniatures.

“She was so excited to talk about miniatures,” said Konkel. “She had done a lot of it herself, and we got to be friends. I fed off her ideas.”

After creating a number of pieces, Konkel was able to fully accessorize the dollhouse. But then her newfound hobby was shelved, due to the business of life. It wasn’t until 2008 that she got back into her doll house miniature pastime ….in a big way.

The dollhouse that inspired Konkel’s hobby has now been passed down to her granddaughters, who are 3, 7 and 10.

Konkel says, a one-time hobby has evolved into a full-time online business. What started as all handcrafted miniatures, has grown into over 16,000 doll house miniatures, dollhouses, and hand crafted american girl doll food.

Mary’s website utilizes the latest online technology for product updating and buyer checkout features.

Konkel said one of her favorite stories involves one of her seven grandchildren and her miniatures.

“She woke up and said ‘Grandma, I woke up and I’m thinking tiny,” she laughed. “And I said ‘You know what? So am I.’”

Doll House Miniatures Online Community is No Small Scale Venture

(PRWEB) January 28, 2005

If you’re into Doll Houses, Toy Soldiers or Model Trains, then you’re probably no stranger to the search engine called My Miniatures.com. My Miniatures is an online community and vertical portal, which is a topic-specific search engine; type in “furniture” and it searches only for miniature doll house furniture. The miniature search engine currently has in its database links to nearly 2000 doll house or miniature related sites, more than 200 miniature clubs, and numerous show listings.

My Miniatures.com is an online community free to its visitors filled with links, galleries, show listings and classified ads.

Why is it so safe? There are no logins, so personal information is never gathered or resold. Every site is reviewed before its listed, and existing sites are randomly reviewed for compliance often.

“When I have done an online search for “doll house” and I would get adult content, and that’s just not acceptable. It’s almost evil to take an innocent toy’s name and attach that type of content to it where they must know children will find it. We only have doll house and miniature sites in our database, so our visitors can feel safe here,” says Michelle Blohm, who is the founder of the site.

When asked about her favorite doll house type, Michelle says, “I just love a three-story Victorian wooden doll house in 1/12 scale that’s electrified and wallpapered, but I respect all creations made in small scales. There is an old time magic you feel that is breathtaking. You peer into a small-scale scene, and turn the tiny lights on; you are transformed into a small child again. It’s very magical.”

Site categories include: Artisans, Houses & Structures, Kits & Patterns, Merchant Sites, Miniature Dolls, Miniature Militaria, Model Railroads, Museums, News Groups, Organizations, Photo Galleries, Polymer Clay, Private Collections, Project Pages, Publications/Books, Resources/Services, Show Promoters, Special Scale, Supplies/Tools and Tiny Teddy Bears. There are also helpful areas to find Clubs, Events, classified items and message boards for help topics.

Advertising is available to doll house site owners and doll house stores through banner ads, premium listings that have a bold font and bring the advertiser to the top of any category, all at affordable rates to fit “miniature” budgets.

The My Miniatures staff is dedicated to bringing safe web surfing to doll house and miniature enthusiasts and pointing these miniaturists to websites, quality doll house collectable pieces and photo galleries in an effort to keep the hobby alive for generations to come.

The site was developed as a Performance Portal by Performance Sites, Inc., Boca Raton, Florida on the web at http://www.performancesites.com.
